On Saturday night, The String Cheese Incident returned to Eugene, OR’s gorgeous Cuthbert Amphitheater for the second show of their three-night weekend run.
The sextet kicked off their first set with “Manga”, a tune the band released in 2018 out of their SCI Sound Lab in honor of legendary Cameroonian bassist Andre Manga. Following “Manga”, SCI sandwiched Billy Preston‘s “Will It Go ‘Round In Circles” in between an explosive “Got What He Wanted”. After working through an exploratory “Jam”, Cheese continued on with newer tunes “Believe” and “Gone Crooked”, which was followed up by “Pack It Up”. The Barefoot Boys brought their first set a close with a pairing of “Black & White” into “One Step Closer”.
Following a brief setbreak, The String Cheese Incident returned to open up their second frame with “Vertigo” before turning things up a notch with a smooth-segeued pairing of “Black Clouds” into “Close Your Eyes”. After a brief break to catch their breaths, the six-piece moved forward with “Catfish John”, a tune Jerry Garcia popularized and released on his 1976 solo album, Reflections. Following “Valley of the Jig”, SCI closed out their second set with a pairing of “Shantytown” into “Desert Dawn”. The band returned to deliver a two-song encore of “Sweet Spot” and a bust-out of the Grateful Dead‘s “Ripple”, the latter last played on July 31st, 2015 at Bridgeport, CT’s Gathering of the Vibes.
Tonight, Sunday, September 29th, SCI returns to Eugene’s Cuthbert Amphitheater for the third and final night of their weekend run. For a full list of the band’s upcoming tour dates, ticketing, and more information, head to The String Cheese Incident’s website.
