Antonio Brown’s Patriots Disaster Wins Him a Weird NFL Record

Antonio Brown is the gift that keeps on giving.

The former New England Patriots wide receiver may no longer be delighting fans and fantasy football owners with his exploits on the football field. But he has become a never-ending supply of social media fodder and headlines – which some may find more entertaining than anything he ever did on the field

However, he is not done leaving his mark on the game. It seems that he is about to set a new NFL record – for the weirdest reason ever.

Antonio Brown to Patriots & Raiders: ‘Show Me the Money!’

It does not seem that he is interested in cleaning up his image so that a team may be willing to sign him. Instead, he almost seems focused on cementing his status as a persona non grata. ESPN reports that Antonio Brown will set a new record for grievances and appeals with a total of nine.

We are not talking about his helmet issues here. No, these nine are all related to money (fines, guarantees, salary, etc.) and total around $61 million.

From the Raiders he is hoping to recoup the $215,000 fine the Raiders levied against him, the $1 million signing bonus, the $29 million in guarantees in his contract, and his Week One salary of $860,000.

For his 11 days and four receptions with the Patriots, he is trying to collect the $1 million guaranteed in his contract, the $9 million signing bonus, his Week Three salary of $64,000, and $20 million option for the 2020 season.

If Brown has no interest in ever playing in the NFL again (like he claims), then he absolutely should go after every penny he possibly can. Even if he only gets a small portion of it, he will still come out ahead in the end (or at least his bank account will).

But if he does want to play again, these grievances may be the last mistake he makes. Teams may be willing to put up with ridiculous helmet issues, temper tantrums, and childish social media behavior. Some may even overlook the sexual assault allegations and threatening text messages.

However, when he tries to attack the bank accounts of NFL owners, he is going to have a hard time finding allies and friends willing to get his back.

Ex-NFL Wide Receiver Seeks Advisor – for Undergraduate English Class

Many have wondered what his inner circle of advisors has been telling him. To date, their advice has not done him much good (if any). Antonio Brown would be smart to look elsewhere for help – which he appears to be doing, at least when it comes to his English paper:

No word on whether he’s still taking applications.
